From Tradition to Digital Innovation – Transformation of a 140-Year-Old Chemical Company

Challenge

The chemical industry is a traditional sector, and as such, the customer was relatively immature in terms of digitalization.

Assignment

To drive digital transformation, the customer had appointed a Chief Digitalization Officer (CDO), tasked with accelerating the company’s digitalization efforts and enhancing employees’ digital skills. NIELY Consulting has acted as a wingman and advisor to the CDO for several years.

The approach, a bit different from a typical consultancy assignments that often invest significant time in developing vision, objectives, strategies, roadmaps, KPIs, and administrative processes. Instead, through quick and focused internal dialogues, we identified the highest-priority areas and began our work there. The advantage of this approach was that we could quickly demonstrate clear results, while simultaneously learning more about the company to be able to formulate relevant vision, objectives, and roadmaps.

Result

The company has delivered numerous projects within digital transformation, increased its competence, and—with a defined data governance framework—is now well-prepared to embrace AI.
